This might be the highest Return on Investment exercise in the Self-Development world. There’s no shortage of little life hacks that promise to drastic results in no time but this one one is the real deal. I’ve done it myself and here’s why I love it — it only takes only a few minutes a day, boasts big benefits, and has a swath of scientific evidence behind it.

Here’s the Exercise

Before bed, pull out your journal, a notecard, or a scrap of paper. At the top, write “Three Good Things That Happened Today.” Think back through your day, pick out three good things and write them down. They don’t have to be big. Just write down the first things that come to mind. Spend a few seconds reflecting on each:

  • What made it good?
  • How did it come about?
  • how can you get more of that good thing tomorrow?
