If you read my last Behind the Scenes article, then you know that I’m writing a book. I told you that before I even started writing so that I would stick with it. And it has worked…so far.

I spent the last few weeks building my plan — a 25-page document detailing the following phases: planning, research, writing, editing, publishing and marketing.

Why does it take 25+ pages just to plan to write a book? Because it’s a ton of work. I spent the last two weeks just working on the outline! And I almost drove myself insane in the process.

Hopefully, by sharing my struggles, step-by-step you can learn how to outline your book without losing your mind.

[Note: This is probably best suited for Non-Fiction books]

Step One: Suffer Terribly

This is how outlining went for the first week: I would wake up feeling clear and motivated and excited to get to work. And those first few bullet points that I wrote were masterful. They made sense.
