Beware Excessive Moderation

Life balance is a buzzword but, like anything, balance should come in moderation.

Short-term imbalance is balance.

Can I tell you something? I’m fucking tired. I’m working six days a week right now and that seventh day is just spent preparing for the next week of work — laundry, cleaning, and prepping food — because I’ll be too busy working to do any of that later.

I don’t have time for anything else.

When I tell people that, look at me with pity and say “Everything in moderation,” while seeming to forget the second half of the quote:

Everything in moderation, including moderation.

I’m not complaining about being overworked. In fact, I’m delighted by it. It’s not that I don’t believe in moderation, it’s just that I’m in a period of moderate moderation right now.

The Self Care Fallacy

It’s trendy these days to spoil yourself, to give yourself a break, to take it easy, to heal, to take a self-care day. I’m not against self-care, even if I think it’s annoying when people say, “hashtag-self-care.”
