So, every article about depression is written in this hopeful, cheery tone — the tone of someone who recently recovered from a depressive episode and now has it all figured out.
They never give it to you straight. It feels patronizing. It’s almost like they’re talking down to you, like, “Look at me, I fixed myself and if you weren’t such a piece of shit, you could too.”
That tone makes someone who’s currently depressed want to kill, not only themselves, but the writer, too. If this article strikes you that way, I give you permission to murder me.
